Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs

Review by Rex

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is not only one of my favorite children’s book but one of my favorite movies as well.  Having an all-star cast that includes Bill Hader, Anna Faris, Andy Samberg, Bruce Campbell, and Mr. T, from the beginning this movie got me excited.  Not to mention that it was written and directed by the same team that recently gave us thecloudy with a chance of meatballs Lego Movie, which is a must see.  Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs tells the story of Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader) who from a young age aspires to be a great inventor, following in the footsteps of Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison.  Unfortunately, while his inventions are truly extraordinary they never quite seem to work out the way he intends.  His latest invention that can “mutate” water into food for the town of Chewandswallow, who are currently forced to eat their main export sardines after the rest of the world realizes that they are gross.  His machine ends up working a little to well and teams up with Sam Sparks (Anna Faris) and Brent (Andy Samberg) to stop his out of control food mutator.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs has a little bit of everything, action, humor, and important life lessons.  Throughout the movies the character struggles with who they are and what people want them to be.  In the end they realize that in order to succeed they have to accept who they are and to quote from Dr. Seuss “Those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.”  A truly fun movie that would be great for any family movie night and great way to talk to your kids about accepting yourself and being happy with who you are.
