Orientation & Interview Process
Submit employment application via KidSpirit website. Submit any additional application forms to KidSpirit office, 125 Langton Hall (i.e. 2 Background Questionnaires, resume, lesson plans).
Applicants must first attend a mandatory new staff orientation. Orientations are informal session discussing KidSpirit programs, expectations of all staff, job descriptions and staff contract stipulations. Upon completion of a new staff orientation, a supervisor will contact you to set up an interview.

If you cannot make this orientation, you can attend any of the new staff orientations and there will be a breakout session for returning staff.
Staff Trainings:
If hired, there are four mandatory staff trainings. The training sessions are:
- Saturday, May 16th: 1:00 – 6:00pm
- Saturday, May 30th: 1:00 – 6:00pm
- Sunday, May 31st: 1:00 – 6:00pm
- Saturday, June 6th: 1:00 – 6:00pm
Required Certifications
If hired, applicants will need to be certified in CPR (Adult and Child), Standard First Aid and OSU Dixon Recreation Center Rock Climbing certification, PRIOR June 15th.
Dixon Recreation Center will host a certification class for KidSpirit employees on May 17th. The CPR/First Aid certification class will run from 10am-5pm. If you only need CPR certification, the class will run from 10am – 3pm. Payments are due at time of certification class.
- Child/Adult CPR ($40)
- Child/Adult CPR and First Aid ($50)
- Dixon Recreation Center Rock Climbing (FREE for OSU Students, $6 for Non-OSU Students or $5 if sponsored by an OSU student)
For those needing to be recertified, Dixon Recreation Center offers many recertification classes. KidSpirit will NOT have a recertification class. Please contact Dixon Recreation Center directly at (541) 737-3748 for more information.
If you are unable to attend the certification class, applicants are responsible for receiving certifications PRIOR to June 15th.
Job Descriptions
KidSpirit has high expectations of its staff. It is KidSpirit’s goal to provide a quality and safe environment for all campers, parents and staff. Although you will be given a general job description, it is not an exhaustive list of the job duties you will be expected to perform and the attitude you will be expected to present. You should always be prepared and willing to respond to the unexpected.
- Practicum & Internship Opportunities (unpaid)
- Responsible for specified KidSpirit project area. It is the student’s task to present a project area idea to KidSpirit administrators for completing practicum or internship opportunities. There may be circumstances that exist where projects are already predetermined and students will be given the opportunity to choose a project.
- Head Instructor
- Prepare and implement daily lesson plans, lead specialized activities for children grades K-8, provide feedback to parents, camp counselors and administrators on progress of classes, and maintain a safe and productive learning environment.
- Camp Counselor
- Responsible for a grade specific group (K-8th grade) of 10-20 children, assist in all aspects of program, escort children from one class to another, assist head instructors, monitor behavior and performance, motivate children, provide feedback to parents and children.
- Office Assistant
- Responsible for all daily operations of KidSpirit administrative office. Duties include: answering phones, returning messages, data entry, customer service, various short and long term projects. Occasionally you may be asked to assist or instruct class activities.
KidSpirit Pay Scale
Experience is defined as skills, knowledge and/or work in a school, classroom, camp or instructional setting. Experience is based upon part/full time hours, or approximately 20-40 hours/week.
Wage/Hour Experience
$8.40 0-3 months experience
$8.40-8.50 3- months to 1 year experience
$8.50-8.60 1-2 years experience or special level of certification/responsibility
$8.60-8.70 2-3 years experience or special level of certification/responsibility
$8.70 + 3+ years experience or special level of certification/responsibility
