Getting active is a key way to keep you and your family healthy. Although, with gymnastics, homework, and dinner, it can get pretty hectic to try and schedule a 30 minute run around your neighborhood. If you have a busy lifestyle, but still want to get your family active, here are some easy additions to make your evening active friendly.

  • Working out in the evening before dinner is a great way to get exercise, and also a way to get your kids to eat all their dinner! After sitting in school all day, it is nice to relax somehow after school before homework and sleep. Here is how you can incorporate a fun run before dinner. Create a short list of things your children will find if they go for a walk or run family fitnessaround your neighborhood, (i.e. a blue car, the gray house, swings in the park, fire hydrants) have the kids make a count of everything they see and make it a game to see who can spot the things on the list first!
  • If your kids are allowed to watch television in the evening, make a new rule that you have to do jumping jacks during the commercials in order to keep watching. This will get their blood pumping, while still getting to watch their favorite show.
  • Another way to make it fun for your family to get active is create a game for your family to follow as a new years resolution. As a family, try and take the stairs as much as you can instead of the elevator; it’s never too late to start! It will be fun to see how many times you actually don’t use an elevator after the year is over with!
  • The last thing you can do is having active toys available for your kids to play with. Have kites, jump ropes, and Frisbees accessible for anytime activity.

I hope this inspires you to use these ideas to get your family active, or even create your own that will work with your family’s schedule.
