Junior Beavers become Junior Thespians in this sub section of the Young Actors Series. Participants will create stories, build costumes, and explore the world of live theatre. Each session can be done alone or in combination with other sessions. Each day actors will spend two hours in theatre specific curriculum accompanied with an hour of physical activity. Classes are held in the afternoon portion of the day.
Sessions 1 and 4: Junior Thespians will explore the many parts of storytelling and how to build a story, brining old classics and new tales to life on stage. Stories this year include: "Ira Sleeps Over" by Bernard Waber, "Little Beaver and the Echo" by Amy MacDonald, "The Day the Crayon's Quit" by Drew Daywalt, and the classic fairytale "The Gingerbread Man."
Sessions 3 and 5: Junior Thespians go behind the scenes discovering what it takes to bring a production to life. Thespians will practice basic costume design via mask making, and stage craft. Thespians will also engage in telling fantastic stories through pantomime, using only their bodies and facial expression to weave a tale.
Session 6: As a capstone of the summer experience, Junior Thespians will learn the basics of singing, acting, and dancing to retell some of our favorite stories. Musical numbers include: "I won't grow up" from Peter Pan, "Getting to know you" from The King and I, "I just can't wait to be king" from Disney's The Lion King, and "A friend like me" from Disney's Aladdin.
